Why Hijri dates differ by a day

Two sites can show different Islamic dates on the same day, and both can be following their own community’s practice. This note explains what we show. It isn’t a ruling. No scholar or imam has reviewed this site.

What we calculate

Dates on this site come from your browser’s Umm al-Qura calendar. In our test it gave the same date as the Umm al-Qura website on all 355 days of 1448 AH. That calendar is a calculation used in Saudi Arabia, not a sighting report for your city.

Why communities differ

Some follow a local sighting, some a nearby country, and some a calculated calendar. Those can land a day apart. Ramadan 2027 is calculated to start on 8 February 2027 here; yours may differ.

What you can do

Use the Hijri date shift in the settings to move our date a day either way. The Ramadan PDF lets you pick day 1 yourself. So do the Ramadan pages. Your community’s announcement comes first.
